BAGcard: Chalabi

-- Kudos to Ahmad Chalabi, the Iraqi-exile power player. The fact he is in strong contention to lead Iraq has earned him the “Jack of Spades” card in the BAGnews "Conservatives Most Wanted" Card Deck.

Among his achievements, he had the foresight several years ago to switch teams from the now backsliding U.S. CIA/State Department to the muscle-bound Pentagon. In so doing, he continues to get more mileage out of his association with Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz than they get out of him (by a large margin). He has also been successful, at least so far, in playing down his “convict status,” based on an embezzlement conviction in Jordan in which his bank almost brought down the Jordanian financial system. Also, he continues to adeptly finesse the fact that his experience of his country terminated at the age of 12.

Congratulation, Mr. Chalabi!
