More often these days, it's parody which brings the most poignancy and illumination to the news narrative.

Much more than the SNL skit framing Obama as the object of media love, however, last weekend's more substantial piece was represented by the shots below.

Watching Tina Fey doing the Women's News segment of Weekend Update, spending most of her time on Hillary and finishing out, with Amy Poehler, in an unabashed celebration of the female "fight instinct," SNL illustrated -- more plainly than any one else this whole political season -- how much Clinton embodies the pride of so many women in the country.

In the segment, and this latter shot, in particular, the identification and enthusiasm of both women seemed to more than transcend the role.

There was a time we called these folks "humorists". In other eras it was Mark Twain, Will Rogers, Lenny Bruce practicing "humorism" — basically the art of describing one's culture as simply, directly, and accurately as humanly possible; and then pausing. Laughter ensues.

Gee, I guess that I, as an intelligent and progressive woman, better find a man to marry who I think will become president, so that I, too, can run for president someday and make all women proud.

But then again, since when was it an advantage to be related to a former president, anyway...?

I find it very ironic that Sen. Clinton wants to tout what a great symbol of women's progress she is when she would not be in this race if she wasn't married to Bill Clinton. Voting for her just because she's a woman is just as stupid as voting for Obama just because he's black.

Clinton may be a smart, accomplished woman, but she's not the woman I want to be the first woman president.
