DNC 2.0

Scherclemonsdnc

The clear feeling here in Denver is that the (technology rich) progressive movement has its own convention-within-a-convention going on.

This shot more than captures the rise, and resourcefulness, of the new netroots political media.  In the shot, Bill Scher of Campaign For America's Future (well known for his ability to blog standing up) interviews public policy expert Steve Clemons of The Washington Note in the Google lounge of The Big Tent (in other words, blogger central).  Using his MacBook as a video camera, you can see Al Shaw, our producer capturing the interview with his iPhone uploading directly to the web via Qik, with yours truly on screen just off Steve's left shoulder.  Bill's interview should be on-line any minute.

We've got a tableau demonstrating digital cubism, the interaction between actor and viewer now hopelessly complicated by dueling cameras and recorders. Multiple parallel perspectives are going to force serious cognitive problems on those of us that want Blue or Red or any other binary resolution. Cool, for sure, but still a novelty. I can't wait until it starts making us smarter.

nicely writ, chien noir.

This "Convention" thing in Denver... it's all so, how do you say, un-conventional, n'est-ce pas?

i mean, there is absolutely nothing happening there; there is zero content, character or drama in Denver. watching it is a bit like zooming in with a powerful Zeiss microscope to a group of objects at the cellular level ~ engaged in nothing more than normal, Brownian Motion. This limp, lame spectacle is, imho ~ beyond the lock-step programmed vacuousness of, say ~ the Republican Party invitation-only thingys. This thing... isn't.

the DNC narratives, awfully thin to begin with, quickly devolve into THIS kinda thing; ie., media narcissus. Wow. This is not a POLITICAL convention, folks ~ there ain't no politics going on ~ this is a MEDIA convention: The only "vote" we have is for the Channel of our choice!

and THEIR conceit? “The People don't want NEWS, they're seeking CONFIRMATION OF THEIR VIEWS.”

welcome to the politics of pundit identity: "I'm not an ‘Obama’ supporter, I am an ‘Olbermann’ supporter."

channel me, baby!

Are you Hunter Thompson? A Clone? clone? Who ARE you? channel me baby! You make me laugh.

On second thought, Hunter Thompson would NEVER tolerate the filter.
